Summary
In the royal court, power rests on three things: property, titles, and magic. House Konbayazen lacked a sorcerer and became the ridicule of the aristocracy—until its head cursed his own daughter, Sabina. Branded “death incarnate,” she carries a dreadful power: anyone who speaks her name falls ill, and anyone who touches her flesh watches their own body rot.
With this curse, her father ruled through fear, destroying all who opposed him. After years of abuse, Sabina is sent away to the countryside to recover. She is placed in an abandoned village, with the imperial knight Erzan Muskovayev as her bodyguard.
Sabina expects isolation, but Erzan is different. Normally repulsed by human warmth, she feels an uncanny comfort in his presence. Stranger still, Erzan seems immune to every curse he encounters. As the two spend their days together in the haunted village, they find themselves drawn toward each other—bound by a connection neither of them believed possible.
